Today's Quotes to Live By episode doesn't feature as much of a quote as it is a poem. I find it to be about the way we should all live our lives; a perspective and an analysis looking back on life and what is most important. This version come from Mother Teresa, but I also wanted to mention that this is an adaptation from an earlier version by Dr. Kent Keith called the Paradoxical Commandments.
Regardless of your religious background, or beliefs, I think that this is something that each of us can learn from. To do good things for other people, to help them and love them. Not because you will receive any credit, or reward, but because of doing what is right and being the best version of ourselves we can be. There will always be people who will try pull you down, criticize, or fault you. Remember that their issues are usually with themselves or their circumstances and not personally with you.
Forgive them anyway.
people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.
they may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
and it may never be enough.
Give the best you've got anyway.
in the final analysis it is between you and God;
it was never just between you and them anyway.
