"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all."
What does it mean to live versus just exist? Of course, if you're reading this, you're alive. You're physically here and surviving. I think what Wilde meant by this quote, was an observation to how most people are living their everyday lives. To live is not to have the finest things or take the most extravagant vacations. I believe to truly live is found in your small moments of every day. It's more than just moving from day after day without a thought as to why you do things, or just going through the motions. To me, that is just existing. To live is to be mindful, or aware and present. When you spend time with people, be very present and conscious and grateful for your time with them. When you're outside, take nature in; from the sun to the smells and colors. To live is to experience it all, with all your senses. I also believe that the more present we are in our lives, we naturally become more self-aware. When we are more self-aware we know what our hopes and dreams are. What our purpose is, and through that we can live a more passionate life.
So take this today as your reminder to start to live more present, and more mindful. Don't let the motions of life take over to where you simply just exist.
